Demuth, Norman

Demuth, Norman (1898–1968)

English composer and author. He was educated as a choirboy at St George's Chapel, Windsor, and at Repton School. He studied music at the Royal College of Music in London and became professor of composition at the Royal Academy of Music there in 1930. His books include studies of César Franck, Maurice Ravel, and Albert Roussel.

Works

five operas, including Volpone (after Jonson) and The Oresteia (Aeschylus); five ballets; four symphonies, two piano concertos; three sonatas for violin and piano, string trio, string quartet.
