Dench, Chris (1953– )

English composer. He is self-taught and a leading member of the avant garde; his music has been performed by the London Sinfonietta, Ensemble InterContemporain, and the Arditti Quartet. He has appeared at Darmstadt, the Venice Biennale, and the International Society for Contemporary Music's World Music Days.

Helical for piano (1975), Caught Breath of Time for flute (1981), Enonce for 15 players (1984), Strangeness for string quartet (1985), 4 Darmstadter Aphorismen (1986–89); Sulle Scale della Fenice for flute (1989), Dark Neumes for guitar, six brass, and amplified ensemble (1989).
