Denfeld, Louis

Denfeld, Louis (1891–1972)

US naval officer. He was a rear admiral during World War II, commanding Battleship Division 9 in the Pacific. His defence of naval independence during the unification of the armed forces led to his removal as Chief of naval operations.

He was born in Westboro, Massachusetts and he served as a lieutenant in World War I. During World War II, he was the assistant chief of the Bureau of Navigation, before being promoted to rear admiral.
