Russian composer. An early Soviet exponent of serial and electronic music, he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Vissarion Shebalin and taught there from 1960.

operas L'Écume des jours (1981) and The Four Girls (after Picasso, 1986); ballet Confession (after de Musset, 1984).

Orchestral

concertos for cello (1972), flute (1975), violin (1978), flute and oboe (1978), bassoon and cello (1982), oboe (1986), and clarinet (1989); symphony (1987).

Chamber

string trio (1969), piano trio (1971), clarinet and piano quintets, with strings (1987), Octet (1992).

Choral

Requiem (1980).
