Desaguadero

River in Bolivia; length 320 km/199 mi. It drains Lake Titicaca and flows southeast, with gradually lessening volume, to Lake Poopó. It is navigable only by small craft.

On January 31, 2000, a Transredes oil pipeline erupted and dumped an estimated 10,000 barrels of refined crude oil and gasoline into the Desaguadero River, which supports indigenous communities such as the Uru Muratos.
A broken pipeline that gushed 10,000 barrels of oil into the Desaguadero River has turned into yet another headache for Enron.
Monitoring will extend from Zarumilla near Ecuador's border in the north to Santa Rosa close to Chile's border in the south, and from Desaguadero in the east to Arequipa in the west.
