Despenser, Hugh Le, Earl of Winchester (1262–1326)

English courtier and favourite of King Edward II. He and his son (also Hugh) dominated Edward after the death of his former favourite, Piers Gaveston, in 1312. Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, had both father and son banished in 1321 but Edward recalled them the following year. They were both executed by Queen Isabella.
