Destouches, Philippe.

    0.03 sec.

Destouches, Philippe. (1680-1754)

French dramatist. His finest play, Le Glorieux/The Conceited Count 1732, depicts the struggle between the wealthy middle class and the old nobility.

His taste for Gothic romance makes him a link between comedy in the style of Molière and 18th-century drama. His work is marred by his moralizing tendencies.
