Detroit Lakes

Town and administrative headquarters of Becker County, west Minnesota; population (2000) 7,300. Situated amid hundreds of lakes, it is the centre of a summer resort and fishing area. Since 1983, the city's outskirts have been the site of a huge annual country-and-western music festival. Ancient Indian mounds and purported Viking remains are found in the region.
