Devils Lake

Town and administrative headquarters of Ramsey County, northeast North Dakota; population (2000) 7,200. It is situated 145 km/90 mi west of Grand Forks. The town is a trade centre for grain, livestock, and dairy products. Its manufactures include liquid fertilizer, sheet-metal products, farm equipment, and flour. Devils Lake is home to Lake Region Junior College (1941).

Lying several miles to the south of the city, the lake is a popular recreational site. Fort Totten (1868), is 24 km/15 mi southwest across the lake, and is a well-preserved relic of the Indian Wars. Also in the area is the Devils Lake (Sioux) Indian Reservation.
