Devin du village, Le

Opera by Jean-Jacques Rousseau (libretto by composer), first produced for the court at Fontainebleau, France, on 18 October 1752, with an overture and recitatives by Pierre de Jélyotte (1713–87) and Francœur. It was produced at the Paris Opéra on 1 March 1753, with music all by Rousseau. It describes how the soothsayer unites the discordant couple Colin and Colette.
