di Stefano, Alfredo (1926– )

Argentine-born Spanish footballer. Nicknamed the ‘White Arrow’, he was a key member of the Real Madrid team that won the first five European Cups from 1956–60. In a total of 58 games in the competition he scored an unsurpassed 49 goals. He played 31 times for Spain, scoring 23 goals, and earlier in his career won seven caps for Argentina and three for Colombia, where he had played club football prior to joining Real Madrid in 1953.

In 1964, after winning his eighth Spanish League Championship in 10 years with Real Madrid he moved to Español. He retired in 1966 and later enjoyed some success as a coach, leading Valencia to the Spanish League title in 1971.
