retinopathy

In medicine, a general term to describe diseases of the retina. Such diseases are often complications of other diseases, such as hypertensive retinopathy, which occurs in people with high blood pressure and diabetic retinopathy, which occurs in patients with diabetes mellitus. The underlying condition needs to be treated to prevent the progress of the retinopathy.
