Diamantina

River in Australia; length 800 km/497 mi. It rises in western Queensland, where it is fed by monsoonal rains, and runs mainly as a braided channel before flooding out in Goyders Lagoon, an extensive seasonal swamp 80 km/50 mi downstream from Birdsville. When full the lagoon overflows into Warburton Creek, which meanders around the Simpson Desert before reaching Lake Eyre in central South Australia.
