Diaz, Cameron Michelle (1972– )

US actor. Displaying a fine sense of comic timing, she has alternated independent and mainstream projects, including the edgy crime caper A Life Less Ordinary (1997), the Farrelly brothers comedy There's Something About Mary (1998), the offbeat Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman collaboration Being John Malkovich (1999), and Martin Scorsese's historical crime drama Gangs of New York (2002).

She was born and grew up in San Diego, California, the daughter of a Cuban-American father and Anglo-German mother. She established a successful modelling career during her teens before breaking into the film business. Her easy comic presence and sex appeal have made her one of the highest paid actresses of her generation.

Her first role was as the female lead in The Mask (1994), alongside the Canadian actor Jim Carrey. Other films include Feeling Minnesota (1996), She's the One (1996), My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), Any Given Sunday (1999), Charlie's Angels (2000), and Vanilla Sky (2001). She was also a starring voice in the popular animated Shrek films (2001, 2004, and 2007).
