Dickie, Murray (1924–1995)

Scottish tenor. He made his debut in London in 1947, as Almaviva, and sang in the first performance of Bliss's Olympians at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Londo, in 1949. He appeared at Glyndebourne 1950–54, as Pedrillo and Sellem, and in the British first performance of Busoni's Arlecchino. In 1951 he joined the Vienna Staatsoper (playing buffo roles, and the first performance of Martin's The Tempest). In 1962 he sang David and Ottavio at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. He produced Eine Nacht in Venedig at the London Coliseum in 1976. His son, John Murray (1953– ), has sung widely on the Continent in operas by Mozart, Donizetti, and Tchaikovsky.
