Dickinson

Town and administrative headquarters of Stark County, southwest North Dakota; population (2000) 16,000. It is situated 160 km/100 mi west of Bismarck. Founded in 1882 by the railroad as a forwarding point for the Black Hills goldfields, it is now a trading centre for a large agricultural area, specializing in livestock, wheat, and dairy goods. Other local products include lignite briquettes and pottery. It is home to Dickinson State University (1918).

Dickinson

Town in Galveston County, southeast Texas; population (1990) 9,500. It is located on Dickinson Bayou, 32 km/20 mi northwest of Galveston and 45 km/28 mi southeast of Houston city centre. Texas City adjoins the town to the southeast. Dickinson is a port in an oil producing and industrial area.
