Deirdre

In Celtic mythology, the beautiful intended bride of Conchobar, king of Ulster. She eloped with Noísi, and died of sorrow when Conchobar killed him and his two brothers.

The Exile of the Sons of Uisnech tells of their life in Scotland with lyric poetry.

Her tragedy was presented by the Irish playwright J M Synge in his verse drama, Deirdre of the Sorrows.
