Dietz, Howard

Dietz, Howard (1896-1983)

US librettist and lyricist. He began a long collaboration with the composer Arthur Schwartz, writing the lyrics for their successful revue The Little Show (1929) and the musical The Band Wagon (1931). Their collaboration continued with Jennie (1963).

He was born in New York City. After serving in the US Navy during World War I, he went to work in public relations for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and it was during this time that he began to write lyrics for Jerome Kern and other composers.
