digoxin

Drug derived from digitalis that increases the force of the heart's contraction and is commonly used to treat heart failure. It is readily effective, whereas the related drug, digitoxin, is slow-acting. Side effects include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and, sometimes, cardiac arrhythmia.
