Dillon

Town and administrative headquarters of Beaverhead County, southwest Montana; population (2000) 3,800. It is situated on the Beaverhead River, 89 km/55 mi south of Butte. Dillon grew as a wool-shipping point, and now relies on cattle ranching, hay producing, mining, and tourism. Montana's first teachers' college was founded here in 1893; it later became Western Montana College of the University of Montana. The Beaverhead National Forest has its headquarters in Dillon.

Founded in 1880 as Terminus when the Utah and Northern Railroad arrived, it was renamed in 1881 after the president of the Union Pacific Railroad, which completed the line to Butte.

Dillon

Town and administrative headquarters of Dillon County, northeast South Carolina; population (1990) 6,800. It is situated 40 km/25 mi northeast of Florence and 10 km/6 mi from the North Carolina state line. Founded in 1887, it is now a trade, processing, and shipping hub for an agricultural, poultry, and timber producing region; manufactures include textiles, flour, lumber, and cured tobacco.
