Dillon, James (1902–1986)

Irish politician. Born in Dublin, the son of John Dillon, he studied business management in London and Chicago. He cofounded the National Centre Party in 1932, and was vice president of Fine Gael in 1933. He was the only member of the Dáil who was openly hostile to Irish neutrality in World War II. He served in the interparty governments of 1948–51 and 1954–57, and was a modernizing leader of Fine Gael 1959–65.

Dillon, James (1950– )

Scottish composer. His music has had Renaissance and non-Western influences and is densely composed. Works by him have been featured at the Bath, Darmstadt, Warsaw, and Paris festivals. His works include Introitus for strings (1990), Vernal Showers for solo violin and ensemble, and Viriditas for unaccompanied choir (1993).
