Dimbleby, Jonathan (1944– )| English broadcaster and writer. He has been chairman of BBC Radio's Any Questions since 1987. He has presented the weekly political programmes On the Record 1988–93 on BBC1 and Jonathan Dimbleby 1996–2006 on ITV. His broadcast and print exposes of Prince Charles have led to a more open coverage of the royal family. |
| He wrote and presented Charles: The Private Man, The Public Role (1994), a documentary about Prince Charles in which the Prince of Wales admitted he had been unfaithful to Diana, Princess of Wales after their marriage had broken down. He has made many television documentaries, including The Last Governor, a series about Chris Patten and the handover of Hong Kong, in 1997. His books include biographies of his father, Richard Dimbleby (1975) and Prince Charles (1994). He presented ITV's coverage of the 1997 General Election, which rivalled his brother, David Dimbleby's, coverage for the BBC. He was President of the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) 1992– 7. |
| He was born in London, England, and studied at University College, London, earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy. Launching his career at the BBC, he became a reporter in 1969 and a television presenter in 1972. |
