    0.02 sec.

Dimitriev, Radko (1859–1919)

Bulgarian general who served with the Russian army during World War I. Dimitriev's campaigns were often marked by heavy losses. He was murdered by Bolsheviks at Pyatigorsk after the Russian revolution.

Dimitriev commanded the army that unsuccessfully besieged Przemysl from September–October 1914 and took very severe casualties of 70,000 dead and wounded. At the battle of Cracow (November 1914), he succeeded in driving back a sizeable Austro-Hungarian army. In the battle of Dunajec-San in the spring of 1915 he commanded the Third Army, and suffered another heavy defeat at Gorlice-Tarnow, where an Austro-German force made a wide break in his line and captured over 50,000 prisoners.
