Dimitrova, Ghena (1941–2005)

Bulgarian soprano. She made her debut at Sofia, in 1966, as Abigaille, and sang with the Bulgarian National Opera until 1970, then in Italy in 1975 and at Vienna from 1978. Her US debut was at Dallas in 1981 as Elvira in Ernani, and she appeared at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1988 in Turandot. She sang Lady Macbeth at the 1984 Salzburg Festival and made her first appearance at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in the same year, again in Turandot. Other roles include Aida (Luxor, 1987), Norma (Houston, 1987), and Leonora in Il Trovatore.
