Dinant

Town in Namur province, Belgium, on the River Meuse; population (2006 est) 13,100. It is a tourist centre for the Ardennes.

In the early 15th century Dinant was one of the most prosperous towns in Walloon, Belgium, and had a population of about 69,000. It was sacked and destroyed by Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, in 1466, taken by the French in 1554, and burnt by the Germans in 1914.
