Also found in: Encyclopedia 0.12 sec.

Dine, Jim (1935– )

US pop artist. He experimented with combinations of paintings and objects, such as a bathroom sink attached to a canvas. Dine was a pioneer of happenings in the 1960s and of environment art.

Dine studied at Ohio University before moving to New York City in 1959. His works were characteristically autobiographical; he used his own personal possessions, for example, in his canvas/object combinations. He has also written and illustrated several books of poetry.
