dingoWild dog of Australia. Descended from domestic dogs brought from Asia by Aborigines thousands of years ago, it belongs to the same species Canis familiaris as other domestic dogs. The plot is a long-drawn-out saga of her hairbreadth escapes, insupportable confinements, wild gallops through picturesque countryside, interactions with friendly beasts such as kangaroos and dingos, and longings for a young black stallion. Dingos and certain other Asian canines share with the Carolina dog the ginger-colored coat, which Brisbin says is a hallmark of a very ancient lineage. These "wild dogs" are wolves, coyotes, foxes, jackals and dingos and share enough DNA with domestic dogs to mate with each other on occasion. |
