Dingwall

Market town in Highland unitary authority, Scotland, at the head of Cromarty Firth, 29 km/18 mi northwest of Inverness; population (2001) 5,030. It was the administrative headquarters of the former Ross and Cromarty District Authority, and has been an important local centre since its settlement by the Vikings in the 11th century.
