Dipterus

Oldest and most primitive genus of lungfish, from the Devonian period. It had an asymmetrical (heterocercal) tail, two dorsal fins, scales of a characteristic structure known as cosmoid, and internal nostrils. The characteristic tooth-plates are common as fossils.
