95 Hardcover TL524 While Brazilian Alberto Santos-Dumont and his experimental dirigibles were celebrities above the streets of Paris more than 100 years ago, his feats have largely been forgotten outside his native country.
But fatal crashes - the R101 went down in France in 1930 - and the coming war changed priorities and dirigibles were ditched.
Dirigibles have been around since the end of the 19th century and were used - largely unsuccessfully - by Germany as bombers during the first world war before being put to use by the Nazi propaganda machine in the late 1930s.
