Diruta, Girolamo (c. 1554–1610)

Italian organist and composer. A Franciscan monk, he was the uncle and master of Agostino Diruta, and a pupil of Zarlino, Porta, and Merulo. He was organist at Chioggia and Gubbio Cathedrals. He was a famous player and wrote a treatise on organ playing, Il Transilvano, dedicated to the Prince of Transylvania, Sigismund Bathori. He also wrote organ music.
