disc

In astronomy, flat, roughly circular region of a spiral or a lenticular (lens-shaped) galaxy containing stars, nebulae, and dust clouds orbiting about the nucleus. Discs contain predominantly young stars and regions of star formation. The disc of our own Galaxy is seen from Earth as the band of the Milky Way.
