integer

Any whole number. Integers may be positive or negative; 0 is an integer, and is often considered positive. Formally, integers are members of the set

Z = {... −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, … }

This is the integer set of the number line.

Fractions, such as 1/2 and the decimal 0.35, are known as non-integral numbers (‘not integers’).

The addition (their sum) and subtraction (their difference) of two integers will always result in an integer. The multiplication of two integers (their product) will always result in an integer; however, the division of integers may result in a non-integer.
