Decebalus

Decebalus (lived 1st/2nd centuries AD)

King of the ancient region of Dacia in central Europe (now Romania and part of Hungary). He was paid an annual subsidy by the Romans under the emperor Domitian,but when Trajan became emperor AD 96, Decebalus complained that the subsidy had been cut or withheld, and he invaded Roman territory. Trajan then led two successful campaigns against the Dacians and Decebalus committed suicide.
