Goldfrapp

English electronic music duo. Formed in Bath in the late 1990s, the group comprises lead vocalist and composer Alison Goldfrapp and composer Will Gregory. Both play keyboards and synthesizer. Their albums include Felt Mountain (2000), Black Cherry (2003), and Supernature (2005).

The dreamy, avant-garde, sensual album Felt Mountain incorporates a range of styles, for example 1980s pop, cabaret, and traditional folk music. The next album, Black Cherry, is edgier, with more disco and glam rock influences, and its hit singles ‘Strict Machine’ and ‘Train’ were used in Game Boy television commercials. Supernature, featuring the hit dance single ‘Ooh La La’, continued in this vein.

Allison Goldfrapp studied fine art at Middlesex University, where she created multimedia installation pieces. She contributed her voice to the electronic band Orbital's album Snivelisation (1994) and English rapper Tricky's debut album, Maxinquaye (1995), before joining up with Gregory, a soundtrack composer, in 1999.
