Dixville Notch

Mountain pass in Coos County, north New Hampshire; altitude 571 m/1,871 ft. Dixville Notch is about 3 km/2 mi long, between Colebrook and Errol, in outlying ranges of the White Mountains. Dixville township, which votes first in the nation (at midnight Election Day) in presidential elections, is the site of resorts, including the Balsams, a 19th-century hotel complex on Gloriette Lake; population (1990) 50
