Djokovic, Novak (1987– )

Serbian tennis player, who won the Australian Open in 2008. His powerful forehand and dangerous serve form the basis of his strong all-round game, with no major weaknesses. He won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, beating American James Blake in straight sets.

After turning professional in 2003 shortly after turning 16, he broke into the world's top 100 by July 2005 and finished the year as the youngest player in the top 100. In April 2007 he was ranked in the top 10, where he soon cemented his place as the third best player in the world, behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He won his first ATP title in 2006 and has won Masters Series tournaments in Indian Wells (twice), Miami, Montreal, and Rome. His run at the 2008 Australian Open saw him become the youngest player in the open era to have reached all four Grand Slam semi-finals.
