Dnipropetrovs'kCity in Ukraine, on the right bank of the River Dnieper and capital of an oblast (region) of the same name; population (2001) 1,065,000. It is the centre of a major industrial region, with iron, steel, chemical, and engineering industries. The city draws much of its power from the Dneproges Dam, 60 km/37 mi downstream.
