FrankensteinGothic horror story by Mary Shelley, published in England in 1818. It is considered to be the origin of modern science fiction, and there have been many film versions. Frankenstein, a scientist, discovers how to bring inanimate matter to life, and creates a man-monster. When Frankenstein fails to provide a mate to satisfy the creature's human emotions, it seeks revenge by killing Frankenstein's brother and bride.
