Dodge, Mary Elizabeth

Dodge, Mary Elizabeth (1831-1905)

US writer. She wrote the children's classic Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates (1865), and from 1873 was editor of the influential magazine for children St Nicholas.

For some years she assisted Harriet Beecher Stowe and Donald Mitchell (1822-1908) in editing Hearth and Home, founded in 1868. Her other works include Irvington Stories (1864), Theophilus and Others (1876), When Life is Young (1894), and two volumes of poems.
