Doiran-Struma Front, Campaign on the

In World War I, joint Greek and British operations against Bulgarian forces on the Greece-Bulgaria border in Salonika 1918. The Allies made consistent progress through Bulgaria until the country surrendered 30 September 1918.

Apart from a minor Bulgarian attack 1917 this front had lain dormant until the British attacked a Bulgarian salient thrusting toward Greece September 1918. This led to more fighting and eventually the British and Greek forces launched a heavy attack enveloping Lake Doiran and capturing the town. At about the same time, the French launched an attack on another part of the front, so the British attack was renewed in order to prevent the Bulgarians reinforcing the areas threatened by the French. Both attacks moved forward with success, crossing the Bulgarian border and reaching Petric 30 September 1918 when Bulgaria surrendered and the advance stopped.
