Dolabella, Publius Cornelius

    0.01 sec.

Dolabella, Publius Cornelius (c. 80–43 BC)

Roman politician and general. He married Cicero's daughter Tullia and soon after the outbreak of civil war he transferred his allegiance from Pompey and supported Julius Caesar at the Battle of Pharsalus 48. After Caesar was murdered, Dolabella succeeded to his vacant consulship and sought to work with the conspirator Brutus. However, he soon changed his tack and went to govern the province of Syria. Having murdered Trebonius, proconsul of Asia, he was besieged by Cassius in Laodicea. To avoid capture, Dolabella ordered one of his soldiers to kill him.
