Dolby, Raymond (Milton) (1933- )

US physicist and business man who invented the Dolby system to reduce background noise during recording. He was awarded the US National Medal of Technology in 1997.

Dolby studied electrical engineering at Stanford University in 1957 and went on to receive a physics doctorate from Cambridge in 1963. He founded Dolby Laboratories in California in 1965.
