Dolton

Town in Cook County, northeast Illinois; population (1990) 23,900. It is situated on the Little Calumet River, a Chicago suburb, 29 km/18 mi south of the Loop (the central business district of Chicago) and 5 km/3 mi west of Hammond, Indiana. First settled in 1832, it has contained both industrial and residential sections for many decades. Factories here produce steel, chairs, and paper bags.
