Domremy-La-Pucelle

French village in the département of Vosges, birthplace of Joan of Arc. It lies on the west bank of the River Meuse, 50 km/31 mi southwest of Nancy; population (1990) 200. The house where she was born is preserved as a national memorial, and a basilica (1881) stands on the alleged spot where she first heard voices.
