Don Quichotte

Opera in five acts by Jules Massenet (libretto by H Cain, based on Cervantes and Jacques Le Lorrain's comedy Le Chevalier de la longue figure), first produced in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on 19 February 1910. The story tells how Quichotte recovers Dulcinea's necklace from bandits, but she rejects him.

For over 40 years he's produced illustrations for such clients as Simon and Schuster, Disney, and the New York City Opera, for which, in one dramatic commission in 1986 for a production of Jules Massenet's Don Quichotte, he created a 40-by-40-foot banner of the great French composer's mug.
On January 2, Pietragalla ends her contract with the Paris Opera Ballet in a final performance of Don Quichotte, the very same ballet for which she was promoted to etoile in 1990.
