Donald Duck

Cartoon character created in 1934 by US animator Walt Disney. The belligerent, sailor-suited duck first appeared in a supporting role for the ‘Silly Symphony’ short of The Wise Little Hen. He rapidly gained popularity and achieved star billing for the first time in Donald and Pluto (1936). From 1936 he appeared in a US newspaper comic strip. He won an Academy Award with Der Fuhrer's Face (1942).
