Donat, (Friederich) Robert (1905-1958)

English actor. Known for his grace and range of characterizations, he started out in the theatre and made one film in Hollywood (The Count of Monte Cristo (1934)). His other films include The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933), Alfred Hitchcock's The Thirty-Nine Steps (1935), Goodbye, Mr Chips (1939), for which he won an Academy Award, The Winslow Boy (1948), and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958).
