Dong Son

Archaeological site in Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam. Excavations at the site in the period 1920–40 revealed a number of ancient bronze drums.

The drums found at the site may date from the Han period 206 BC–AD 220 but are not Chinese in style and origin. Similar bronze drums have been found in Southeast Asia and recent excavations elsewhere in northern Vietnam suggest that they may belong to a late Bronze Age civilization in the region.
