Dooley, Thomas Anthony

Dooley, Thomas Anthony (1927–1961)

US medical missionary. He founded Medico, an international welfare organization, 1957, after tending refugees in Vietnam who were streaming south after the partition of the country 1954. As well as Medico, he established medical clinics in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

Born in St Louis, USA, Dooley attended Notre Dame University, joined the navy, and received an MD degree from St Louis University 1953. His assignment in Vietnam aroused his compassion and he devoted the rest of his life to medical work in Southeast Asia.
